The Turkish Society of Histology and Embryology (THED) was established in 1990 in Ankara by a group of academic professionals dedicated to advancing the scientific discipline of histology and embryology in Türkiye.

The Society was officially founded on 18 July 1990 under the name Histology and Embryology Association. Its founding members aimed to create a scientific platform that would strengthen academic collaboration and professional solidarity among specialists in the field.

In 1992, the Society adopted the name Turkish Histology and Embryology Association, and in 1993 it became officially recognized as the Turkish Society of Histology and Embryology (THED) following approval by the Council of Ministers.
