Foundation Purpose and Brief History

The establishment of the Turkish Histology and Embryology Association (THED) started in 1990 with the meetings held by the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Ankara. The first regulation prepared was forwarded to the Governorship of Ankara on July 18, 1990 and the establishment work was initiated under the name of the Association of Histology and Embryology. The founding members of the association are Mahmut Sağlam, Meral Tekelioğlu, Ülken Örs, Deniz Erdoğan, Cengiz Güven, Celal Ilgaz, Hikmet Altunay, Alp Can and Tufan Karaosmanoğlu. The main purpose determined in the first regulation prepared is that the association is a “science and solidarity association”. In this context, it is aimed to organize scientific activities and increase the solidarity among scientists. This first regulation was published in Olay Newspaper on 12 December 1990 and the establishment process of the association was completed. The association officially started its work by holding the first meeting of the temporary board of directors at Ankara University Faculty of Medicine on 15 December 1990.

The first ordinary general assembly of the association convened at Ankara University Veterinary Faculty on May 10, 1991 and the first official board of directors was elected. April 13, 1992 at the head of the association of the name with the written application of the members of the association "Turkey" was proposed addition of the word. This proposal was discussed at the First Extraordinary General Assembly meeting held on 01 June 1992 and it was decided to add the word “Turkish” to the name of the association. On 16 August 1993, the Association took the word “Turkish” as the name of the Council of Ministers and this decision was discussed at the board meeting held on 17 November 1993 and the name of the association was “Turkish Histology and Embryology Association (THED)”. On 25 February 1997, THED became a member of the Turkish Medical Association Specialist Associations Coordination Board. The headquarters of the association is in Ankara and it does not have a branch.

The first emblem of the association was accepted at the board meeting held on 05 May 1992 with the letters "H" and "E" under the letters "Histology and Embryology Association, Ankara 1990". After changing the name of the association to THED, it was decided to change the emblem of the association at the board meeting held on November 17, 1993. The emblem drawn by Alp Can and used today is accepted.

The purpose, study subjects and forms of the Association and its field of activity have been expanded as follows in the intervening time period: The purpose of THED is to carry out education and research and development studies in every field that Histology and Embryology is interested in and to provide the most effective practices by creating national policies in these areas. and improve it. The Association helps the advancement of Histology and Embryology sciences and improves the relationship between these sciences and other disciplines. For this purpose, it supports professional, scientific and social relations among its members, protects the rights of its members and takes into account the highest ethical standards in all its activities. It carries out corrective works in its own field of science, and makes initiatives at the level of public institutions and organizations when necessary. It makes studies that enlighten the public on issues related to the health problems of our country and makes statements when necessary. It aims to improve the health services provided to the community in the field of expertise.

The Turkish Histology and Embryology Association organizes scientific meetings as well as these goals and duties, starting from the day it was founded. The first of these meetings was held on 26-28 March 1992 in Ankara under the name of "Histology and Embryology Science Discipline First Symposium". Since 1994, it was decided to organize this symposium with the name of “National Histology and Embryology Congress” every two years.
